Cold, Cold Weather, But The Piglets Are Doing Fine!

Sometimes I don't hear from people and I think, "Is anyone even reading my blog?  Am I wasting my time?  Should I give it up?"  Then something happens like it did today.  Running into the grocery store to pick up a couple of gallons of milk (I still wonder if I should get a cow or milking goats!) I ran into a dear gentleman and he asked me about my two piglets and how they're doing.  And I realize that, yes, there are people out there reading this!  It sure does make me feel good!

The piglets grow quickly!  These two little boys are at least a third bigger than they were when they were born.  They are absolutely adorable!

This nighttime picture of them checking out mom makes their eyes glow.

This strangely colored picture is under the heat lamps.  After the piglets run around for awhile and get chilled they snuggle down in the hay under the lights.

I'm not pleased with the quality of these pictures.  I have to pull out my real camera - not my phone camera - and take some decent photos!

I'm happy with the very short noses these boys seem to have.  It seems, that the pigs with a shorter nose tend to not root as much as ones with a longer nose.

Fortunately, it looks like our temperatures are going to go up for a little while.  Temperatures in the 20s and 30s feel almost balmy!

  1. Oh how I know the feeling, wondering if anyone reads my blog. I read your (obviously haha) but horrible about commenting........that's my New Year's Resolution tho: to comment on the blogs I read.

Adorable little piglets! My only experience with pigs is when they're giant and mean and smelly. Yours? I could handle. Till they got big LOL

  2. I know what you mean. I have been blogging for years and don't even have as many followers as you. However, I did run into a few young mothers who said...."I read your blog, but don't know how to comment" Yes, it does make me feel good to hear compliments. I guess, I decided somewhere about a year ago, that to me, it is nice to have followers, but I would write down my thoughts, ideas and recipes if for no other reason than for me - to have it to look back and be reminded of all my blessings. Keep writing. My husband has an idea to buy some heritage breed pigs - I thought we were done with that stage when our girls outgrew 4-H. I guess not...we will see....

  3. Jennifer and Dicky Bird. These are a smaller breed called, Idaho Pastured Pigs. Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPP's) are a combination of the original Duroc, old Berkshire, and Kunekune breeds. They have a sweet temperament (though one must always use caution around pigs!) and top out at about 400 pounds.
Dicky Bird, I really like your blogging philosophy.
